Sussex housing styles, with some Pevensey examples, next in the series of Gateway Talks by Dr. Geoffrey Mead, lead tutor – Pevensey Timeline Project

Dr. Geoffrey Mead says: “The vernacular housing of Sussex is heavily influenced by the local materials to build hearth and home. This talk looks at the wider county picture as well as the local examples around Pevensey”.

Trevor Roman, “This is a superb example of a single bay Wealden hall house and can be regarded as perhaps the best preserved of its type remaining in England. The cottage was once The Old Shop in the downland village of Bignor. It was built in the 15th century on a natural outcrop of rock, which forms a plinth for the cottage to sit on”.
