The new group in Pevensey and Westham ‘Incredible Edible’, campaigning to ‘grow food in public spaces for everyone to share’, is celebrating success this week following the Pevensey Parish Council decision to recognise the value of its campaigns.

“Fantastic news! The Parish Council have tonight (March 3) given us final approval to plant five fruit trees behind Pevensey Castle.

“The tree planting will take place on this Sunday, March 8th at 11am and then we will be going to The Royal Oak and Castle at 12 to warm up!

“Please join us and learn how to plant fruit trees, stake them and protect them from rabbits. The planting site will be signposted from the rear of either the Cattle Market or St Mary’s Churchyard. Of course you can always just come and chat to us at the pub! We will have a fruit tree expert on hand to help you decide what fruit trees may be suited to your own gardens and answer your questions.”

Talking to Bay Life, group co-ordinator, Helen Burton told us. ‘it’s wonderful to feel the community uniting with us as a project, all five trees are sponsored by local people and businesses, with more pledges already made for future plantings.

‘We are already planning future planting sites and are open to further suggestions. We are working with ESCC to get permission for planting some of the verges along Coast Rd, it would be great to see the road bursting with flowers in the summer!’
