Offiical confirmation this morning (11 July) that the Castle Cottage Tea Room has been let, after a seven year saga that has seen the building fall into disrepair.

Congratulations to English Heritage, and Tingleys for the push to see that the building at last will come back to life at the heart of the village with the rich 2,000 year old history.

Tingleys Commercial, responsible for the marketing of the property, said this morning,  with obvious excitement and perhaps relief, “Catering Unit In Pevensey – Now Let!”.

On the new website implemented on 26 April, new owners say, “sitting snugly alongside Pevensey Castle, whose ancient walls have warlike tales to tell, Castle Cottage Tearoom recalls instead the leisurely pace of taking tea and its peaceful place in history.

“Besieged only by troops of teacups, trained and at the ready to chink in harmony with saucers, sugar tongs and silver spoons, our tearoom invites you to surrender the stresses of modern life, nestle into nostalgia and share in the delight of simply taking tea….as it used to be”.

The website title bunting on the homepage reinforces the message, “opening soon, serving tea as it used to be”.

Good luck to the new owners. There is already some researched local history on the website amongst the well crafted prose to accompany pictures of the proper fine bone cups of English tea. Fabulous!! And a big well done to English Heritage. Step Back into English History. They got there are last.
