Stranded HSBC Customers—Rover 6 to the Rescue

Stranded Pevensey Bay HSBC customers have a lifeline from the Westham and Pevensey Rover 6 bus – easy access to the bank from their very own easy-access mini-bus service.

Every Wednesday it goes to Hailsham and back three times! There are several banks in Hailsham including HSBC, not to mention Waitrose, the new Tesco store and the Leisure Pool. Tuesdays it goes to Langney Shops and back, three times. There’s another bank and more shops there. All the information is on the web site http://www.wpltp.co.uk/ Timetables are available at Post Offices, Newsagents, Medical Centres, in Westham and Pevensey and from the Library and Information Centre. Copies are being rushed to Pevensey Bay HSBC.

Choose from the timetable when to travel. YES it takes concessionary passes, or a £1.80 fare as you board, YES you book it the day before on 0845 606 6951, but NO you do not “join a club”, NO your name is not on any special list, and NO you do not pay parking fees. This is a “door-to-door service which runs for you so you don’t have to run for the bus”. It’s best to book your journey to be sure of a seat. There’s a traditional bus service too, on Saturdays, bus-stop to bus-stop, using the same low floor mini-bus. It is the Local Shopper (46) which gets you to Langney, NO bookings, NO door-to door facility.

How does this happen without Harry Potter and the Magic Bus? It happens with the help of eight local volunteer drivers who give their time to the community, six volunteer (self-styled) Phoneys who take the telephone bookings, a clever computer based booking system, and support from Westham and Pevensey Parish Councils. With more volunteers and more passengers there would be more services.
