UPDATE: THE PEVENSEY YOUTUBE CHANNEL IS NOW LIVE: SUBSCRIBE HERE

We understand that The Voices Choir Flash Mob that formed part of the successful Information Day put on by Pevensey Parish Council yesterday (April 23) at St. Wilfrids Hall and the Pevensey Bay Baptist Church, is to be featured in the launch of the new YouTube channel today—Bay Life, 24 April 2016

The new YouTube channel will see some of the fabulous community promotions, events and campaigns in Pevensey, Pevensey Bay and Westham reaching a wide audience across the Google owned video sharing website.

In 2014 YouTube said that 300 hours of new videos were uploaded to the site every minute.

The site has 800 million unique users a month. It is estimated that in 2007 YouTube consumed as much bandwidth as the entire Internet in 2000. According to third-party web analytics providers, Alexa and SimilarWeb, YouTube is the third most visited website in the world, as of June 2015.

SimilarWeb also lists YouTube as the top TV and video website globally, attracting more than 15 billion visitors per month.

The purpose of the new YouTube channel, to be called simply, “The Pevensey Channel”, is to give an opportunity to individuals, community groups and campaigns to share videos about their events on the website, with the aim of reaching a wide audience.

Organisers of the new Pevensey YouTube channel note that on Friday (22 April), a ‘Periscope’ video channel broadcasting live from Pevensey Castle by ‘the History Guy’ Dan Snow, reached an audience from across the world, with live contributions from people as far afield as Melbourne Australia.

Talking about the launch of the YouTube channel, organisers said, “perhaps it is time that some of the video from fabulous events and activities that happen in and around Pevensey and Pevensey Bay was promoted in a way that can reach a wider audience. One way to do this is with a dedicated subscription channel on YouTube that features ongoing community activity in Pevensey.

“We can not think of a better way of launching the channel than the Flash Mob Voices Choir event at the Information Day yesterday because, not only was the Flash Mob well organised, their message in the Carole King Song, “You’ve Got a Friend” was well chosen.

“The song represented well the spirit of community activity in the Bay, where we know there are old and young people, in fact people of all ages, who would love to be involved in society and community activity locally, but just do not know how to start to make contact with some of the 60 or so organisations operating, that do so much to help community cohesion in this rural location”

Organisers of the Information Day were praised for the success of the event yesterday. Over thirty societies and campaigns were represented. A number of people described the event to Bay Life as ‘buzzing’.

As well as all the organistions represented there was an opportunity for local people to sign up and get involved in some of the fabulous new projects and societies that are beginning to emerge in the Bay.

Particular praise and congratulations was offered to pro-active Pevensey Parish Council and specifically to the organisatinal skills of Shirley Mackinnon, who was one of the event organisers.

An invitee to one of the stalls at the Information Day told Bay Life, “it is time that the work of Shirley MacKinnnon was properly recognised in Pevensey Bay. She is a genius of a local event organiser and maybe it is time that her work was properly recognised and she got the credit that she is due.

‘Many local people will know that she was behind Pevfest, which ran for five very successful years, but perhaps people are not quite so aware of the range and depth of her work with all kinds of local events.

‘It is not just the Information Day that has her stamp of experience and skill, it was also the brilliant Dickens Evening in 2014 in Pevensey High Street, along with colleague, Denise Rowe, a co-contributor, who is also a genius of a local event organiser, that bore her stamp of an intelligent mix of detail and pizzazz.

“It is time that some of the key people working so effectively and with such understanding and connection to local people and community life and campaigns with events were given the credit that they deserve. As local event organisers, Shirley and Denise, particularly when they work together, quite possibly are the best’.

“Along with their organisational skills and the fabulous Voices Choir yesterday, anyone attending the Pevensey Bay Information Day, new to the locality, feeling a little vulnerable and searching for links to people, really did know that You’ve Got a Friend”.

Bay Life understands that The Pevensey YouTube channel will launch later today.
