New yoga classes at St. Wilfrid’s Hall, Pevensey Bay have created interest in the community—Bay Life, 3 October 2016

Talking to Bay Life, (30 September), yoga teacher, Tricia Martin, said, “I have just began the process of organising a yoga class in St Wilfrid’s Church Hall Pevensey starting in November”.

Explaining her experience, Tricia said,” I have been practising yoga for over 19 years and teaching for 17 years.

“I started teaching aerobics 25 years ago, my interest in health and fitness gave me a passion to find out more about the body and I studied for a year with ITEC gaining a diploma in Anatomy and Physiology and Massage.

She went on to explain that she trained at Yoga for Health in Ickwell Bury to gain her General Teaching Yoga certificate and then moved on to gain a Remedial certificate to teach people with injuries and chronic conditions, such as MS and Arthritis.

Her work has also seen her attendance of the Yoga Journal Conference in America to work with a number of key figures in the field.

After training with British Wheel of Yoga she also told us that she regularly attends workshops and training to keep her practice fresh and to further her experience.

The classes that she teaches are spread across Kent and Sussex includes sessions in Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne. She also runs Yoga Holidays in Europe

Her teaching she says is “an eclectic mix of the experience gained over the years, with a grounding in classical hatha, incorporating a flowing vinyasa style using the breath and bandha as an integral part of the classes”.

Asked about her aims with the new classes in Pevensey Bay she told us. “I want my classes to be both challenging and stress busting as well as enjoyable.

“More importantly I want my classes to be accessible to all that attend.

“To me it is more about a practice that comes from within, and being in the present moment. I could not imagine my life without yoga, and teaching and sharing a yoga practice with others is a pleasure I hope I will never need to give up”

A testimonial from a student with one of her classes chimes with her comments about her practice.

“Tricia’s yoga classes are genuinely the highlight of my week! I started two years ago having no yoga experience whatsoever and was made to feel welcome, comfortable and supported from the beginning.

“Since then, I have found Tricia’s classes to be both physically improving and mentally calming. I sleep so well on a Wednesday evening

“Yoga has also made me more self aware and made me want to treat my body better. I also think that my commitment and enjoyment are testimony to Tricia’s teaching style, which I feel is a perfect balance of physical challenge”.

Having someone with the kind of experience promoted by Tricia Martin, working within Pevensey Bay, looks very much like the classes will become a welcome addition to community life when they begin next month.
