On October 1, as part of the celebrations for its most famous resident reaching 90 and in conjunction with Sussex Walking Festival, Wealden District Council and the Conservators of Ashdown Forest have organised an afternoon long celebration which includes a talk and book signing of ‘The Natural World of Winnie-the-Pooh’ by New York Times bestselling author Kathryn Aalto as well as a themed walk in the forest.—Wealden Council, 23 September 2016

The event starts at 1:30pm at the Ashdown Forest Centre (Colemans Hatch Rd, Forest Row RH18 5JP) with the walk taking place between 2pm and 3pm, beginning and finishing at the centre. Kathryn will be giving a talk and reading extracts from her book between 3:15 and 4:15.

The guided walk is taking place as part of the Coast & Country Walking Festival and is perfect for families, taking pace at a gentle pace and with lots of Winnie-the-Pooh activities lined up.

“Reaching 90 is a tremendous achievement for anyone but to do so as an international icon, beloved around the world, is especially impressive. Well done Pooh; you’re an ambassador for Wealden worldwide,” said Councillor Roy Galley, Cabinet Member for Economic Development. “It’s very exciting to have Kathryn visiting Wealden and I encourage everyone to come along and hear her talk about her book.”

The Natural World of Winnie-the-Pooh is an exploration of the magical landscapes of The Hundred Acre Wood where Pooh, Christopher Robin, and their friends live and play, as well its inspiration, Ashdown Forest. The book covers how AA Milne’s life influenced his famous stories as well as acting as a Pooh-themed guide to the Ashdown Forest and includes plenty of the charming original illustrations and photos. Signed copies of the book will be available at the talk. For those thinking about it, it would make a perfect Christmas present.
