Residents and people who work in Wealden are being urged to take part in the Streets Ahead shopping survey to help provide a better shopping experience in our towns and villages.

“There are 14 towns and villages in the district providing high street shops, restaurants and services but the competition they face from outside is as tough as it has ever been,” said Councillor Bob Standley, Council Leader. “Not only do they face stiff competition from the big towns that surround the District: Eastbourne, Brighton, Lewes, East Grinstead and Tunbridge Wells, they also have to compete with the ever increasing challenge of internet shopping.

“As a Council, we provide free car parking and encourage tourists.

Now, through the Streets Ahead project, our Councillors are working with local shopkeepers, businesses and the Chambers of Commerce to find ways to improve the retail attractions of the District.

We want as many residents and visitors as possible to take the time to complete a short online survey about why they shop – or not – in Wealden. The information is confidential and will provide local businesses with a clearer insight into what needs to be done to improve what is on offer in our towns and villages and how best to market  them.”

The Streets Ahead Shoppers’ Survey is focusing on:
Alfriston, Crowborough, Forest Row, Hailsham, Heathfield, Herstmonceux, Horam, Mayfield, Pevensey Bay, Polegate, Rotherfield, Uckfield, Wadhurst and Willingdon. It can be found online in the Streets Ahead section of the Wealden web site: www.wealden.gov.uk/streetsahead.

Please help improve the economic wellbeing of the District by taking a few minutes to complete the survey. The closing date for the survey is Sunday 30 November.

At the same time, Wealden’s Streets Ahead project is also surveying high street businesses to gather their views on what needs to be done to support local traders and help each town and village make its unique contribution to the local Wealden economy. The Streets Ahead Business Survey also closes on 30 November.
