The Wealden Bus Alliance has welcomed the news that customers can now purchase National Express coach tickets from any Post Office in Wealden

“This is great news for coach users who do not have direct access to the internet and a printer,” said Councillor Barry Marlowe, chairman of the Wealden Bus Alliance. “Many coach passengers are older people who are not regular web users. They will now be able to pop into the post office to buy a bus ticket to visit relatives or friends anywhere in the country.”

“Customers will also be able to seek advice from their local Post Office about the details of their journey and the best fares available,” added the Wealden District Councillor. ”It’s another reason to keep using our local shops.”

The nearest outlet for Hailsham customers to buy National Express tickets has been Eastbourne Tourist Office.

National Express carries some 17 million passengers to 1000 destinations in England, Scotland and Wales. The deal with the Post Office means there are no extra booking fees other than the standard £1 National Express fee.

Thanks to a campaign run by the Wealden Bus Alliance last year, National Express now run a daily to London and back, calling at Hailsham, Uckfield, Nutley, Forest Row and East Grinstead. It then continues to Gatwick Airport and London Victoria. Over 600 people signed a petition calling for the service.
