This June, Wealden District Council is offering local businesses the chance to learn how to succeed in establishing themselves online by enrolling on a Digital Business Skills course.

“For only £50 this course will equip Wealden businesses with the skills and know-how to increase orders and maximise profits online,” said Councillor Roy Galley, Cabinet member for Economic Development. “Although Wealden District Council is committed to supporting our high streets, making the most of the internet, and the opportunities that it provides, is vital for all successful businesses.”

The courses, offered in partnership with the National Skills Academy for Retail and The Association of Town and City Management (ATCM), will run in Hailsham on 7 June, 5 July and 19 July and Crowborough on 8 June, 8 July and 20 July.

Topics covered include:

  • Understanding your customer and digital marketing strategy
  • Developing your business online
  • Developing a marketing plan
  • Learning what makes a good website
  • Learn how to set up an eBay shop
  • Knowing how to choose the best website provider for you
  • Knowing how to use the main social media channels – Facebook, Twitter, Google+, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest and Instagram – to promote and grow your business.

Martin Duff, Director at Randalls Fine Jewellery said, “Sales have grown by over 10% since completing the Digital Business Skills course. It has opened my eyes to the importance of social media in promoting my business to new and existing customers.”

The course will cost £50 per business for all three sessions, and will take place from 5:30pm to 9:30pm at Hailsham Civic Community Hall, Vicarage Lane, BN27 2AX on 7 June, 5 July and 19 July.

Alternatively businesses can enrol for the course at Crowborough Community Centre, Pine Grove, TN6 1FE on 8 June (5:30pm to 9:30pm), 8 July (5:00pm to 9:00pm) and 20 July (5:30pm to 9:30pm).

There will also be practical 30 minute individual 1-to-1 help sessions (subject to availability).
