On November 9, Members of Wealden District Council will be commemorating those who gave their lives in the service of their country at Remembrance Sunday events across the District.

“With 2014 marking the centenary of the start of World War 1 it is a very poignant time to reflect on, remember and honour those who have lost their lives defending our country. I encourage everyone to attend a Remembrance Sunday event near them to make sure they are never forgotten,” said Councillor Brian Redman, Chairman of Wealden District Council. “We should also think of those who are risking their lives in service of Great Britain today – the risks and sacrifices are as great as they have ever been.”

The Chairman will be attending the Remembrance Service at All Saints Church in Crowborough and laying a wreath. Council Vice-Chairman, Cllr Barby Dashwood-Morris, will be attending the service at Hailsham War Memorial and laying a wreath and Deputy Leader of the Council, Councillor Claire Dowling, will be attending the Parade and Remembrance Day Service at the Church of the Holy Cross, Uckfield. Other District Councillors will be attending Remembrance Day services throughout the District.

The Union Flag will be flown at Wealden District Council’s offices in Hailsham and a two minutes silence will be held for staff to pay their respects.
