IN A unique two-for-one deal, community heroes, the Westham and Pevensey Local Transport Partnership have joined forces with the Hailsham Bus Alliance to give people an opportunity to enjoy days out at prices they can ill afford to ignore.

The deal, utilising the flagship Westham based  ‘Rover 6 bus’, began on August 1 and represents the first time that the two localities have worked together with the community based bus service in this way.

As well as the obvious attraction of the kinds of discounts available for two people planning a day out, the co-ordination of the services bodes well for future plans that could enhance the role of local community bus networks.

Organisations like WPLTP and Hailsham Bus Alliance, seen by some people as ‘the future’ for the integration of rural bus services that can ‘respond’ to local demand in some innovative ways, are becoming increasingly visible in the promotion of their people based inititatives.

The scheme is one of many that is beginning to receive a well deserved injection of support from local media sources and the social networks online.

Hailsham Town Cllr Barry Marlowe said:

“This promotion demonstrates our strong commitment to encourage more local people to use local bus services helping to improve overall sales in the process.

Youth Mayor of go-ahead Hailsham, Chelsie McIntosh, commented:

“The introduction of such an excellently driven partnership is incredibly good news.

“The offer of two tickets for the price of one for a day out to Pevensey Bay is exceptional, and would offer young people the chance to visit an area in which they may not be familiar and diversify their experiences.

The promotion has been planned for the first four Wednesdays of August.

Two passengers together and booking before any journey will be eligible to travel for the price of one person (£4), the required fare being paid as cash or with a concessionary pass as passengers board the bus.

Local passenger pioneer, Joyce Richards, a director of WPLTP, who over the last five years has been responsible for some extraordinary developments in the field of community transport initiatives said:

“Hailsham folk can enjoy family summer holiday outings to the Pevensey Bay seaside, whilst Westham & Pevensey folk can make the most of Hailsham shopping opportunities.”

To find out more information about how to book the community buses service and the special August offer, both Pevensey and Hailsham passengers should phone 0845 606 6951. Hailsham passenegers can also turn up in person at the Town Council offices in Market Street for further guidance.
