Robert Slater, the man behind Pevensey Ghost Walks, celebrates 22 years service to the community this week
Talking to Bay Life on Saturday (November 1), Robert told us “I have just finished my Pevensey Ghost Walks for Halloween this year – this is the 22nd year of doing the walks now!
“Although they run every Saturday throughout the year Halloween is the only night I do two walks – one at 7.30 and one at 10.30 finishing midnight!
“I don’t use any gimmicks on the walks just good straightforward storytelling intermingled with local history. How we have two Castles (Roman and Norman) for the price of one! Where the Plague victims of Pevensey and Westham were buried and naturally lots of ghosts and a couple of gruesome murders along the way.
“In the 22 years I have literally had thousands of people come on the walks but have never had any sponsorship or outside help other than my own hard work which is not bad for such a small village and its also a pretty unusual part time job to have!”
Credit where it is due. This is some record and the clients that Robert has served over the years will no doubt have gone home with stories to tell and history to recant.
Many of those people will have become promoters of Pevensey and its legends, heritage and history. As an example of an unusual part time business, and one that is of value to the locality, it is hard to beat.
