Fundraising also well underway for another Defibrillator, this time to be sited at the Ethel Wood Hall

After successfully raising the money for purchasing and fitting a Defibrillator in Pevensey Robert Slater has organised a training course on resuscitation and using a defibrillator on Monday 18th March 7.30 till 9.30 at Priory Court Hotel.

Talking to Bay Life (16 February) Robert said “fundraising is also well underway for another Defibrillator, this time to be sited at the Ethel Wood Hall in Pevensey Bay (which will be available 24/7) – has anyone more fundraising ideas? Do you fancy running a Coffee morning, a Quiz or anything which will raise money for this worthwhile cause?”

He added “I will also soon be starting a Village Easter Draw – lots of great local prizes. I will need a local venue for this to be drawn at hopefully as part of a Grand Quiz to mark the occasion and raise some more money – any suggestions for the venue?”

Robert points out that “one in a thousand people suffer from sudden cardiac arrest every year in the UK and defibrillators save lives – according to the Resuscitation Council. The major factor limiting the number of people who survive SCA is the ability to provide defibrillation within a critical time.

“Conditions for defibrillation are optimal for only a very few minutes after the onset of VF, although this period can be extended if a bystander provides effective cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), particularly chest compressions.

“Nevertheless, the victim’s chance of survival falls by around 7 – 10% with every minute that defibrillation is delayed. Only rarely are the emergency medical services able to attend and provide defibrillation early enough, and the best way of ensuring prompt defibrillation is for someone nearby to use an AED to deliver the shock that can often save a life…’

He emphasised  “by attending a course or getting involved in raising some money for local defibrillators you could save a life and it might even be one of your own family or friends’..
