Good news: Towner has secured continued investment from Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation for 2018 – 2022

As our friends and supporters, I wanted to let you know the good news that Towner has secured continued investment from Arts Council England as a National Portfolio Organisation for 2018 – 2022. This renewed funding reflects their confidence in the gallery and their recognition of the important work that we do locally, regionally and nationally, and is particularly welcome news in such precarious times for public sector funding.

However, it is important to note that despite recent news coverage suggesting otherwise, this is in no way a funding increase or uplift for Towner, as it is a renewal of funding which has been in place since Towner was still part of Eastbourne Borough Council. The proposed 50% cut to our funding from the Council is still very real and we are working closely with the Senior Team there in the hope that we can reach a compromise to reduce the cut or stagger it over a number of years to give us the time to become more financially independent.

We will of course keep you updated on our progress and let you know when we need your support.

In the meantime, I hope that you have had the chance to visit our fantastic summer exhibition Ravilious & Co: The Pattern of Friendship which has delighted audiences since it opened late last month and continues until 17 September. Do keep an eye out for our new events brochure, due out next week, which will keep you updated on the great exhibitions and events we have in store over the coming months.

As ever, thank you very much for your support, and I hope to see you at Towner soon.
