Sir
As a keen observer of Pevensey Bay Life I have many concerns regarding the strategy and direction that the Pevensey villages take. I do advocate a wider MP led top down analysis of the economic micro climate and tourism strategy of Pevensey Bay and this historic village, littered, as it is, with wealthy organisations loosely governed by the Charities Commission and peopled by non elected and often, not local ‘officers’.
That said I’m banging a different, positive drum today; from 10 June 2017 until August, Westham, Pevensey and Pevensey Bay have an opportunity to gussie up as a tourist destination and promote themselves every weekend. The delightful chaps from Seaford and District are sending the East Sussex Tourist Trail buses (Service 124) through the villages. (Please see their website for detail). From Lewes to Eastbourne Pier they serve Pevensey Castle at 1244 and 1624, stopping at Pevensey Bay at 1248 and 1628.
From Eastbourne Pier to Pevensey your tourists will alight in the Bay at 1002 and 1332 and in Pevensey Village at 1006 and 1336.
Call me an old fashioned Tourism Officer but I’d be looking at food offers, promoting on social media, plus via Seaford and District, independently from your accounts and via #EBHour, via #1066hour (Thursdays) and via Facebook to increase footfall. If the villages all sang from the same hymn sheet a Pevensey Villages Passport could be promoted across the locale. #PevensDAY. A big joined up Summer 2017 promotion.
If I was a politician (which I’m not) I’d look for a photo opportunity with Seaford and District to launch the initiative with scampi in a basket for their trouble.
And hey …here’s a thought …. if Seaford and District need to crew change in the Cattle Market Car Park or have a tech issue and stop there they’ll not be expected to pay or get …. ..a parking ticket for their efforts, instead they might get a complimentary cup of coffee and a cheese roll.
Yours
Jayne Howard
