News that Jeremy Corbyn is to undertake a surprise visit to Hastings this morning (Thursday 17 January) has increased the sense that the country may be moving towards a General Election in the coming months.

In a message to local labour party members last night (16 January), the Pevensey Bay Journal understands that the Labour party sent the following message from Jeremy Corbyn;

“On 17th January, join me in Hastings where I will set out Labour’s way forward for our country.

“We will lay out what Labour will do to build a future that works for the many not the few.

When: Thursday 17 January (tomorrow)
Where: Hastings (exact location tbc)
Time: 10am to 12pm

In response, local MP Huw Merriman retweeted a thought from sitting Conservatve MP in Hastings, Amber Rudd, (9:00am) in which she said, “Welcome to Hastings, Jeremy. On your visit you’ll find: More jobs More businesses More investment”.
