Local Pevensey Bay based conceptual garden designers Andy Hyde and John Humphreys are to feature on BBC2 this evening (July 7) as part of the Hampton Court Flower Show.—Bay Life, 7 July 2016
The Wormhole Garden is one of the stars of the show at the Hampton Court Flower Show, last year, the dynamic duo won gold at the biggest flower show in the World.
Talking on his Twitter Feed today, sculptor, John Humphreys, one of the two masterminds behind the project says, “Check out the fabulous gardens at RHSHampton tonight! @BBC 2…9pm Including the infamous WormholeGarden”.
Their project, part crowd funded this year, they describe as, “a conceptual garden at Hampton Court Flower Show 2016, a depiction of time and space in garden form!”.
Talking about their plans two months ago they said, “We intend to create a 4.3 metre turf pyramid capped with a steel apex and housing holes that run through the core of the structure.
“These holes hint at an alternative reality as you look through. The pyramid is set within a black pond and the pond is encircled by the fiery planting and translucent coloured glass. These depict a dying star collapsing to form a black hole.
“Last year there was a lot of interest from people wanting the garden but finally we decided to give the bare bones of the design away to a community project in Bexhill. We spent six months working with them to transform a dumping ground into their garden of dreams”.
John Humphreys studied at the Royal Academy Schools. He works in Film & TV. He created Max Headroom and the Alien Autopsy. His surreal figurative sculptures are collected worldwide.
Andy Hyde is the boss of Mudlarks Gardening in Pevensey Bay. He studied at Kingston University, London.
They collaborated in 2014 to win the turf sculpture competition and in 2015 their conceptual garden Equilibrium won gold and best in show at the Hampton Court Flower Show.
Talking to Bay Life this evening (July 7) Claire Kidd, speaking on behalf of the project, said “The BBC come to visit and the roller coaster journey is recorded for prosperity!
