A total of 478 votes cast and a fierce competition that saw the front runner for most of the race beaten at the finish line by a spur of interest in one image. Time to announce the winner of the Bay Life Photographic Competition 2014.

Now bedded down in the community as an annual exhibition of photography about the locality, this year saw an amazingly diverse set of images from still life to landscape portraiture into impressionistic views of the floods, the beach and various key reference points to the Bay in all its glory.

Twenty-four stunning shots.

The winner captures the essence of the Bay, with an unusual focal point. The work is a classic of some description.

Thank you to all the finalists for their contributions. Thank you also to everyone that voted.

We have an extraordinary local landscape to document. We have an extraordinary degree of creative talent here to document that landscape.

Perhaps the two go hand in hand. Walking along the shoreline at the end of the day, with a trusted friend in company, as the sun goes down, for many people, is about as good as it gets.

One way to read the winning image is with the Bay as the storyteller, about to recount the next chapter in the life of the locality. Bestowed upon its chest is the award for being the special place that we know and love.

‘The Starfish’, by Gary Sadler is the winner of the Bay Life Photographic Competition 2014.
