The three community platforms in Pevensey Bay East Sussex, Narberth Wales and Benbecula in the Western Isles of Scotland are supported by teaching programmes delivered by a small, national award winning, educational institution based in Brighton.
The ten month course is designed for professional people with a recognised role within each community. The modules taught include technical areas such as;
- business startup: implementation of cutting-edge open source technologies to create high-end professional platforms
- working at the coalface: the poetry of code (working with php, css and html)
- 20/20 vision and the 960 grid: design and development of on-line interfaces
- rss, feed the world: research & news gathering for the web
- get your clicks on route 66: SMO (social media optimisation).
Further information about the course is available on request. Enquiries are welcomed from recognised community organisations seeking to set up town and village hubs online to the kinds of professional standard seen implemented by national newspapers and magazines with their online offerings.
The fee for each ten-month programme, up to three students, inclusive of design and development of a community platform and 60 hours tuition, is £5,300.
Computer Box College manages the process through which the platform is embedded in the online activity within each local community. This includes advice and support about how to approach issues like sponsorship, advertising and feature based promotional articles to help new and established businesses grow their online profile in a sustainable way and social media campaigns.
A second year of support, with advice on a monthly basis, is available and charged at 10% (£530.00) of the initial outlay fee.
