This year sees the 750th Anniversary of the Battle of Lewes, in which the Royalist forces of Henry III were defeated by Simon de Montfort, 6th Earl of Leicester, and the remnant fled to Pevensey Castle where they we besieged for more than a year, writes Owen Visick, Churchwarden, St. Nicolas Church, Pevensey
During this summer a series of events has taken place to commemorate this important event in the history of England, and a tapestry has been created and is on display in the Barbican House Museum in Lewes.
This month Pevensey Court House Museum, in conjunction with St Nicolas Church, will host an illustrated talk about the battle and the siege.
The speaker is Julian Humphriess of the Battlefield Trust, an accomplished historian and English Heritage author and broadcaster.
The talk will take place in St Nicolas Church Pevensey, at 7.00pm on Tuesday 30th September. Admission is £7.00, towards the restoration of the church which celebrates its 800th anniversary in 2016.
