Writing to Bay Life (14 September), Mum, Amanda Walker-Oliver told us about a novel fund raising initiative by her son, Kit,’to climb the 02′ for a charity, based in Polegate, raising money for children

The O2 Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena in the centre of The O2 entertainment complex in Greenwich, southeast London

HIs aim is to climb the iconic venue (all 52 metres) helped by his Mum and Dad.

Kit, who is partly educated at St Mary’s School and College in Bexhill, has founded his own fundraising page. His target figure is £1,000 and this morning (14 September), he had already reached £324 towards his target figure, within days.

Amanda said, “not only is this event to raise funds for a charity close to our hearts, it is to build confidence and self esteem to our son who has complex additional needs”.

“He has his own gofundme page and checks everyday as his donations increase”

The page Kit has set up starts with these words, “Hi there! I’d really appreciate it if you would share or donate to this GoFundMe, A Unique Boy, an O2 Climb and a Great Charity”

Mum Amanda says, “my son’s first ever fundraiser for a local charity”.

Amanda Walker is organising the fundraiser on behalf of CHILDREN WITH CANCER FUND (POLEGATE)

HIs fund raising page explains in full the idea behind his ‘climb of the 02″

Hi my name is Kit I have Autism, I have heaps of help from amazing people and I would like to help other people too. CHILDREN WITH CANCER  FUND (POLEGATE) helped my teacher’s family when her grandson was poorly. I figured I might need to do something different, so on October 29th 2019 I am going to climb the O2 with my Mum and Dad. It would be the best thing ever if you could make a donation to help me raise money and awareness for this great charity.  Every donation will make a difference. Thank you in advance for any contribution, I just want to help!! Kit x

Kit who lives in Eastbourne Road, West Ham, is appealing for support ahead of the guided climb on October 29.

Talking to the Newham Recorder, 10-year-old Kt said, – with a “dry sense of humour” “I am climbing the O2 with my parents, if they don’t chicken out. Please sponsor me to help children in need.”

At St Mary’s School and College in Bexhill his teacher, Amanda Brown, supported him last year.

Amanda told the Newham Recorder: “Kit is bright, but has a lot of anxiety which has an impact on him. Mrs Brown went above and beyond to support us and all the time she was helping us, her grandson was really poorly.

“Kit is very kind and loving. He wants to do things for others.”

The Newham Recorder added “after animal-lover Kit found out about the support the charity Children With Cancer Fund (Polegate) was providing Mrs Brown’s family, he was stirred to action.

“Inspired to do something for a teacher who had done so much for him, he came up with the idea of taking on the O2 climb.
