Wealden District Council is calling for everyone to unite against dementia during National Dementia Awareness Week of 14 to 20 May.—Wealden District Council, 10 May 2017
Seventeen events are taking place throughout the week in locations across the District
The Wealden Dementia Action Alliance are celebrating a year since their launch at an event at Hailsham Civic Community Hall from 2pm to 4pm on Tuesday 16 May. There will be speakers and presentations as well as information stalls to provide services and information for those living with dementia, carers, neighbours and family members.
“Dementia can affect people at any age, not just the elderly, and the numbers of people diagnosed and impacted by it are rising. It’s incredibly important to be aware and have an understanding of what this condition involves. The very point is that it is possible to live well with dementia,” said Councillor Claire Dowling, Cabinet Member for Public Health at Wealden District Council.
“As well as celebrating the successes of the Wealden Dementia Action Alliance, there is a series of events taking place across the District every day of Dementia Awareness Week, from coffee mornings and memory cafes to information sessions and carers support groups.
“There’s even a wine and cheese evening! I thoroughly recommend coming along to an event near you whether you are living with, or caring for, someone with dementia or just want to know more and help spread awareness.”
Wealden Dementia Action Alliance was launched during last year’s Dementia Awareness Week. Since then it has organised Dementia Friend sessions, set-up the Uckfield local forum, and started Dementia Friendly film screenings at Hailsham Pavilion.

May also sees the return of the popular dementia friendly film screenings with On The Town at 2pm on Friday 26 May at Hailsham Pavilion. These monthly screenings will now run to July.
