Bay Life understands that a retro furniture shop is being considered for the new business quarter that is beginning to emerge at the heart of Pevensey Bay around the Bay Works, Marine Road area.—Bay Life, 27 October 2017
Plan for retro furniture shop in business quarter of Pevensey Bay
Talking to Bay Life today (26 October) the owner of the proposed enterprise explained that the idea was to trade with a shop that had ‘a good selection of retro furniture and shabby chic goods’
Asking about a possible lease, Bay Life indicated that we would be happy to pass on the information about the search. It was explained to us that the potential owner ‘would be very interested indeed’.
The potential brightness of business in the quarter in Pevensey Bay is beginning to take shape.
As well as a very skilled wood turner, whose goods we saw yesterday (October 25) there are also already a number of other small enterprises in and around the interesting area, which would at one point to the mid-seventies have been described as light industrial.
Such sites converted to become business quarters have proved to be a success. The advantage of this particular location, as opposed to many other such sites, is the physical closeness to the community.
Many such sites are on the outskirts of towns and cities, for example, up until recently. The Argus in Brighton had a large ‘light industrial site’ based in Hollingbury, a suburb in Brighton.
If promoted such sites become a ‘nexus’ , it is easy to see the possibility that the area could become an identifiable small business quarter,
With the arrival of AD Signs, which has just attracted interest from Pevensey Parish Council for their services, with some signage to promote the sponsorship of planters in the Bay, there is already a bit of a buzz starting with regard to potential services at the location.
We now have the possibly of a retro furniture shop that in the view of Bay Life, would switch on a light bulb to the area as a potential destination source, not just for visitors to Pevensey Bay but for residents as well.
Bay Life is aware of four enquiries now about the possibility of leases in the Bay Works area.
As well as the possibility of a retro furniture shop, we also know that a small party scoured the area a few weeks ago, with possible consideration for a lease as an art gallery of some description.
The possibility that a small business quarter in Pevensey Bay may become a feature of life here is both exciting and engaging.
Perhaps as the campaign to support a community venture library here proceeds, there may even be interest in a long lease for a library in the quarter, the possibility of such an enterprise , which would not only form a brand new feature to life in the Bay, but would also make the area of significant interest and attraction to footfall. The ‘projection’ of such an idea would appear to be a possibility. Perhaps this idea will grow over time.
A word for these kinds of conjunction of circumstance is happenstance.
Simon Montgomery editor of Bay Life said (October 27) said “at some point the possibility might come into the equation, with low leases and buildings that clearly have character and are more user friendly than the compaction of the current building, we might just be looking at an interesting possibility.
“How does the theme run for the new community venture for the library? Location, location, location.. here in the heart of the business quarter.
“The shape of a possibility might emerge over the next few months, the contact point for the new community venture library would enhance the value of the business quarter and the business quarter emerging might even enhance the community venture library, makes for an intriguing set of posibilities as an idea, does it not?
“In fact there is something of a potential neat fit as a set of possibilities.
“Who knows, there could even be some neat retro furniture for the library at a special discount price next door.
“A simple way to put the idea might be in the form of a spreadsheet equation.
“There no complex equations here to work out, this is not rocket science. 2+2=4.
“A library in the new business quarter might make a lot of sense.
“2+2= 4, just add a quarter”.
