Pevensey Bay villagers are celebrating after it was announced the Olympic Torch would be coming through the centre of the village.
Plans originally showed the torch would bypass the centre of Pevensey Bay and a petition was organised and signed by the residents of the village.
The landlord of the Beach Tavern Pub, Stephan Ritchie, started the campaign and this week found out the Olympic Flame will be coming through the village on July 17.
It will reach Monarch Gardens, opposite the Crumbles Retail park, at around 4.35pm and will go on to Pevensey Bay from there.
Stephan said he wanted the people of Pevensey to be part of the celebrations and he is now delighted it will pass the front of his pub and he is looking forward to putting on an event for the occasion.
Stephan said, “It is marvellous it is now coming through the High Street. I am really pleased that Pevensey Bay will no be involved.
“I am going to get a banner to go on the side of the pub and get people to support the event because it is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
Stephan organised the petition and presented it to the parish council and the Olympics committee.
He said he couldn’t be sure whether the petition had made a difference to the finalised route but added, “I like to think my petition had something to do with it and I am delighted everyone will now be able to enjoy the occasion.”
