Extra resources are being deployed this week by waste contractor Kier as the second cycle of the new refuse and recycling arrangements gets underway.

Some crews still had difficulties in completing their new rounds. Kier will be sending extra vehicles out today to make outstanding refuse and recycling collections from yesterday. If your collection from earlier in the week still has not been collected, please keep your bins out. Wealden’s waste contractor, Kier, and the Council apologise for the inconvenience residents may have suffered because of missed waste collections.

Planned catch up collections – Friday 9 August

Missed garden waste collection may take a little longer to be collected. Please continue to leave missed bins out to be collected.

Kier, our waste contractor, is carrying out an extensive operation to catch-up with missed bins from the previous fortnightly cycle. If you have an outstanding refuse or recycling collection from then, please contact the Council. We will be seeking to find out why collections have not taken place and are treating these as matter of urgency. We have expanded the number of staff at our Customer Contact Centre to deal with your emails and phone calls.

Treatment of separated glass on collection
Please note: The new refuse trucks are designed with a compartment especially for glass which is why we ask people to keep glass separate in boxes at the roadside. However, if the compartment is full up then glass can still be put in with the other recycling materials in the back of the recycling truck, and it can still be separated at the waste disposal facility, so your efforts have not been wasted.

Some older Wealden vehicles were used in the catch-up rounds over the weekend. These had no special compartment for glass and all the recycling went into the back of the vehicle. It will be separated out at waste disposal facility. Please continue to separate glass out and place in your recycling box. If you see the collection crews putting individual boxes into one larger box at the roadside, it will still all be recycled.

Assisted collections
Assisted collections are still taking place.

Brown bin deliveries
There have been delays in delivery of brown bins to some households that signed up for the garden waste scheme in March. If all of your neighbours have received a brown bin but you have not (and you registered for Green Garden Waste collection by 31 March), please let us know using the contact details below.

If you registered for a brown bin after the 31st March, you will receive your bin, and therefore a garden waste collection, in October.

Please contact us if you still have garden waste in your recycling bin and do not have a new brown bin to transfer it to.

Other Information and Updates
Wealden is one of the largest rural districts in the South East. Your help and understanding is appreciated as we make these improvements to increase the collection of kerbside recyclables in Wealden. Our Waste and Recycling pages contain a wide range of helpful information about the new scheme.
