Bay Life reader, Glenda Roper, takes up a story about the Pevensey Roundabout. In a courteous and thoughtful reply, Holly Penfold on behalf of Sussex Police indicates that the road policing unit will be made aware of the comments. Is it time for action and better road markings?
Dear Bay Life Readers
I just wanted to share this with you all. I live in the Bay and work in Heathfield and my route to and from work involves the Pevensey roundabout, now here lies my confusion??
On my way home, I approach the roundabout, passing the Esso garage on the left and move over to the right hand lane, once I have passed the two other junctions I indicate and move over to the Pevensey turning (the 3rd exit). On more than one occasion I have been cursed and shouted at for being in the wrong lane!
Now as I am being regularly shouted at I thought I would try the left hand lane, but as sure as eggs is eggs, I get someone in the right hand lane shouting abuse then. Now this was becoming such a frequent event I contacted Sussex Police to clarify and this is what they said:
Regards,
Glenda
Dear Mrs Roper
Thank you for contacting Sussex Police. I have created a serial and your reference number is (number given).
From your diagram and description it would appear you are negotiating the roundabout correctly (as your exit is past ’12 o’clock’, you should be in the right hand lane unless road markings say otherwise).
I will make our road policing unit aware of your comments that many road users are not using the roundabout correctly.
Kind regards
Holly Penfold

I have now been contacting them on a regular basis to get some road markings on the roundabout as one day there is going to be an accident there. I just wondered if any of your readers have had a similar experience or are as frustrated and confused as me?
