Bay Life has been given notice of a public meeting to be held in the very near future with regard to the proposed demolition of the Beach Tavern and the plan to turn the location into a block of three storey flats comprising in total eight flats.—Bay Life, 17 February 2017
The Group which is being formed today, we understand, is comprised of a number of key residents horrified at the possibility of the character of Pevensey Bay being destroyed by the imposition of a plan on a cornerstone site that will ‘put the essential character of our community under threat’.
Talking today to Bay Life, one of the key organisers told us “I am genuinely shocked and appalled at this proposal, it is grotesque and what it will mean for the people of Pevensey Bay, not just the implications for residents that live around the site”.
Bay Life understands that there will be a national petition launched tomorrow (February 17) which will take place under the umbrella of change.org, with the aim of linking three generations of people across the country that know and love the character of Pevensey Bay.
There is to be, we understand, a social media platform dedicated to the campaign to ‘save the character of Pevensey Bay from the developers’ which will link the concerns of residents, as well as a twitter feed which will update residents and interested people from a number of communities with latest information about the campaign to stop the proposed development.
As well as local lobbying over the issue and the public meeting that is planned, Bay Life understands that the theme of the new group will be based around the notion that the development of three storeys of flats at a focal point in the Bay, represents some kind of tipping point in the fortunes of Pevensey Bay as a place that residents and visitors know and love.
The lady who talked to Bay LIfe today said, “we are going to stop this appalling proposal, it is grotesque, and we are going to stop it in its caterpillar tracks now”.
She added, “we are going to be asking local people to join us because we believe that if the proposed development is allowed to go ahead, it threatens not just the future of a key character location in the Bay but the future of the fortunes of the Bay and that is about all of us”.
Further details about the public meeting, as and when known, will be published by Bay Life.
