Bay Life received the following message from Stephen Potter, Head of Customer and Library Services at East Sussex County Council to publisher Dianne Dear today (11 August).

Dear Dianne

I thought it would be helpful to update you on our progress with regards to Pevensey Bay Library, as the facility remains closed.

Our legal team is in talks with the landlord about the necessary repairs and how best to address the issues with the building. Meanwhile we are continuing to look for suitable alternatives to ensure that disruption to the service is kept to an absolute minimum. We have been in discussions with a number of organisations locally and are very optimistic that we will be able to provide a temporary library facility in Pevensey in the very near future.

We will continue to keep the public updated and are happy for you to share this information with your readers.

Best wishes

Stephen Potter
Head of Customer and Library Services
East Sussex County Council

Bay Life comment: Well done to Stephen Potter at East Sussex County Council for being open and transparent about situation and keeping local residents informed about what is happening with the library. We are now eight months without a service, hopefully it will reach a resolution soon. ‘Very near future’ sounds promising for a temporary library facility, that will certainly be something. What we need as a permanent solution is our library back because it is such an asset to the community, well loved and well utilised.
