Poet and writer Philipa Jane Coughlan is to be invited to participate in the Pevensey Food and Drink Festival 2020

She wrote to Bay Life (18 September) with a suggestion for the Pevensey Food and Drink Festival 2020 organisers.

The festival aims to link 17 local food establishments in a celebration of this foodie heaven corner of Sussex next year.

Philipa, who has recently moved to the area, is a poet and writer who was based in Nottingham. She was involved with the UNESCO City of Literature creative team in Nottingham and organised an event with the DH Lawrence Festival there last year.

Writing to Bay Life, Philipa said “I was interested in the article about events being planned around this event next year.

“On a food theme I wondered if you would consider any poetry? With a food theme and also linked to its timing with VE day commemorations with rationing.

“I am a writer and poet who has just moved to the area from Nottingham (where I was involved with the UNESCO City of Literature creative team) and am also a member of Eastbourne Poetry Cafe.

“Often poetry evenings are held in bars/cafes etc and with a food theme it would be a great idea for new verses – or perhaps a local competition for food themed poems?

“Anyway I will keep an eye out for forthcoming events from you”.

She added in a further communication, “Keep me in the loop about things always happy to help, Idea of Pie Pint and Poetry sounds great.

“I was involved with the DH Lawrence Festival last year and did a Lawrence’s Ladies Poetry Cream Tea!

“There’s lots of potential I should think”.

Bay Life understands that organisers of the Pevensey Food and Drink Festval 2020 are to talk to Philipa about the possibility of her involvement in the big celebration next year here in Pevensey and Pevensey Bay with the first food and drink festival.
