#CelebrateNationalLottery25 is a £2million fund open to all and grants of up to £1,000 were awarded for ideas that help bring communities together. Two local projects have been lucky enough to win awards of just under £1,000 each.

Friends of Pevensey Playgrounds is an organisation led by community members and is designed to give voice and influence to the Playground users, at the same time providing a platform for making grant application and fundraising bids to awarding bodies.

The Friends are also at the forefront of organising local events and with their #CelebrateNationalLottery25 award they have been able to plan for the popular Spring/Summer FREE Play Events.

Pevensey Dog Show was a runaway success in 2019 and returns to the village on Sunday 7 June 2020. This event, too, has been awarded #CelebrateNationalLottery25 funding.

Organised by Pevensey Parish Council the event sees pooches competing for honours in 7 classes under the watchful eye of Sue Criddle and her Perfect K9 team, the show will also feature live entertainment, refreshments and bar, exhibitors and children’s activities in the onsite play area.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service will be bringing service assets and running fire safety demonstrations. This year they are joined by colleagues from Sussex Police, who will be on hand to provide information on Community Speedwatch as well as demonstrating the force’s new Mobile Police Station. Various other emergency services have been invited to join the event in support of the Pevensey Fire Station team and organisers are excited to hear that NEWFS in Action will attend demonstrating the life saving and recovery skills of these beautiful dogs.

Pevensey Parish Council Chairman, Peter Lowton commented, ‘we are so pleased to have been awarded this grant and super to see Friends of Pevensey Playgrounds also benefitting. Both local initiatives play an important part in the villages.

It is important to support local families with the provision of free, play sessions that encourage participation and social opportunities, whilst the Dog Show offers a platform to educate residents and visitors in responsible dog ownership in a fun, competitive environment’.
