Pevensey Defibrillator installed following major fund raising initiative by resident, Robert Slater.

Talking to the Pevensey Bay Journal (24 September), Robert told us, “a few months ago I started a campaign to raise money for a Defibrillator to be installed in the Market Square in Pevensey – these pieces of life saving equipment often get overlooked in rural villages when towns have plenty of large charities to raise money for purchases.

“One in a thousand people may suffer sudden heart failure each year and considering the numbers of people in Pevensey whether visitors, residents, Local Businesses, Castle etc. there is definitely a need for a Defibrillator in the village.

He explained, “after Quizzes, markets, donations and finally a Grand Village Draw (Last Wednesday) all the money has been raised and the equipment purchased and now subject to the final agreement from Wealden Council will be fitted soon in the Cattle Market Car Park”.

Today (18 October) he was able to confirm the successful conclusion to the fund raising campaign with the news that the defibrillator has now been installed.

Robert said, “the Defibrillator has now been fitted and is in Pevensey Cattle Market Car Park.

“There will be a small ceremony to mark the successful campaign at the Car Park this Saturday at 3pm.

” Anyone who wants to come and have a look at what the fundraising has achieved is welcome. For those who have donated prizes for the Draw or helped with the campaign there is a free Coffee and Biscuits at Priory Court afterwards”.
