8:00am
Bright sky, blue with white cloud. Freezing cold but no new snow, although residents reported snow overnight. Bit of a gusty wind.

Lorna Brigid Crowe commented,”we had fresh snow in Pevensey overnight!”.

By 9:00m this morning, there was a bright blue and the full sun, but really really cold.

The Met Office regional forecast for the South East reports, “mainly fine with sunshine, but it will feel increasingly raw given a strengthening easterly wind. Snow showers will be fewer and further between than of late, mainly affecting the east. Maximum temperature 1 °C. Tonight: Apart from an isolated snow shower most places becoming dry with clear spells. Very cold with a penetrating severe frost, given the strength of the breeze. Minimum temperature -8 °C”.

Another day in Pevensey Bay to wrap up warm if you have to go out.

East Sussex Highways issued the following detailed report about their activities, “as you will no doubt be aware there has been significant snowfall across the county, heaviest in the north of the county.

“All of our Primary and Secondary gritting routes were gritted yesterday afternoon and early evening in advance of the snowfall (the routes can be viewed on our website by clicking on the gritter www.eastsussehighways.com). All Primary Routes were then gritted twice during the night.

“Snow ploughs have been deployed in the north of the county and our gritter drivers are currently working a shift pattern to ensure that we have sufficient staff to drive the gritters throughout the day and night. The gritters are currently out across the network, concentrating on the major routes and can be tracked on our website at: http://www.eastsussexgritters.onwave.com/Gritters/Gritters.

“There are some problems on the A22, A26 and A267 mainly due to cars not able to negotiate the hills. Elsewhere the side roads and estate roads are covered with snow. We have re-deployed the pothole gangs across the county, to fill grit bins and hand-salt pavements in the town centres, we have local farmers on standby to help us and are ready to deploy hippo bags if needed”.

More snow is predicted throughout the day, this evening and over the next couple of days, and the team will continue to focus on keeping the main roads clear. Updates on gritting activities are being provided through the East Sussex Highways website and through social media, and interviews have been given to local media (BBC Radio Sussex), updating them on actions taken.
