“We will be discussing the re-opening of the library”—Friends of Pevensey Bay Library, 12 May 2016

Details have now been published about the next meeting of the Friends of Pevensey Bay Library at a vital time in the future of the much loved service that is at the heart of the community.

Following a successful demonstration on the steps on the library on Saturday 20 February, which was accompanied by significant interest in the press, including BBC Radio Sussex, and the Argus, discussions have been taking place about the future of the service.

East Sussex County Council has said (27 April) ,”We will issue a full public statement by Monday 16 May, in which we will include a target open date for the library”.

With the full statement by East Sussex County Council expected in the next four days, the meeting looks likely to be full of talking points for all the people, members and supporters of the campaign that have worked so hard in the last year to see that the matter of when the public library will re-open remains pinned to the top of the local agenda.

The community that is so well versed in talking about its own history, has also been making history this year.

The campaign that took to the steps of Pevensey Bay Library in February featured children, mums, dads, young people, older people, disabled people and senior citizens. They pledged their love and commitment to the cause of their local library and the message was broadcast loud and clear across Sussex.

Are we about to see the foundations built for a local library fit for the 21st century? The campaign has been well organised by the Friends of Pevensey Bay Library. Their savvy literature about this meeting, as with all their other literature, is cogent and informative. You will find more information about the group and their campaign in cafes across the locality.

One thing is for sure, whether or not Pevensey Bay Library is to become ‘a library fit for the 21st century’, the Friends of Pevensey Bay Library most certainly as a local campaigning organisation, is a library friends group that is fit for the 21st century.

There has been a theme underpinning their work since they began their campaign. Their call for ‘joined up thinking’ amongst all the authorities concerned has registered.

The meeting planned for Friday 20 May may become a seminal moment in the history of the local campaign.

There will be an opportunity to hear the latest news about the re-opening of the library and discuss a number of issues.
