Credit to East Sussex County Council today (June 10) with an update of information to local residents about what is happening with Pevensey Bay Library.
They have confirmed that there are legal issues with regard to the continued closure of Pevensey Bay Library and the fact that they are looking at alternative premises.
It is useful to know the current situation.
This kind or pro-active communication with people in local villages that the library serves is useful.
Credit to the council communications team and councillors for keeping local residents informed.
We hope that the situation can be resolved soon.
East Sussex County Council Statement—10 June 2015
Work is still ongoing to ensure Pevensey Bay Library can reopen as soon as possible. The library has remained closed since January, when extensive flooding resulted in damage to floor coverings, furniture and fittings.
Legal discussions are continuing with the building’s owner to establish who is responsible for works to prevent further flooding, and staff are continuing to actively explore options for alternative sites.
We understand that this is a frustrating situation for residents, but we’re committed to resolving the issues with the landlord before the library can re-open.
Customers can use any other East Sussex library, including those at Eastbourne, Langney, Hampden Park and Bexhill, while people can also take advantage of the council’s e-library to browse the catalogue and borrow e-books. People may also be able access the home library service.
A book exchange is also available at the Royal Oak and Castle, in Church Lane, with a range of ex-library books available for anyone to borrow or read at the pub.
