Pevensey Bay battens down the hatches this Sunday as conservatories, greenhouses and anything that moves, is fastened tight as we prepare what is being called ‘hurricane force winds’ to hit us this evening.
Update: 09:35am Sunday: The last five hours have seen bizarre conditions with something approaching gale forces winds descending suddenly on the Bay at approximately 05:00am with the force of what sounded like a steam train overhead. Gradually the wind dropped and dissipated after a brief bout of torrential rain added to the worsening conditions.
Currently, there is bright sun and the wind speed has dropped to 8mph, in what seems like a puzzling interlude, that could be a late summer morning as the sun break through the clouds.
But with frenzied sudden gusts of wind in the mix, we can see that the strange conditions are clearly moving towards the kinds of major upheaval that have been forecast.
We wait with trepidation for the circumstances to radically change again towards this evening with winds of up to 80mph forecast.
Stay safe. Now is the time to venture into the garden again and bring those last pots indoors.
