We welcomed local MP, Huw Merriman to the community yesterday (August 27), soaking up the Pevensey Bay sun and talking with some of the very able community groups here.

He is a credible, hard working local MP, not just with his finger on the pulse of community life, but someone who has contributed in a major way to community debate here. He has played a positive role here, and this continues to the case. He visited the new community work being done in Beachlands yesterday. We may be seeing a real lift for the historic estate with the foundation of a new residents association.

In relation to the long and desperate struggle to see that we continue to have a library here, he also played a full and capable role by chairing a debate about the circumstances.

He was elected as an MP in 2015 and since that time he has been an advocate for Pevensey and Pevensey Bay, and a friend to this community.

Yesterday he was in the company of his colleague, County Councilor Tom Liddiard.

Tom Liddiard has done nothing for Pevensey or Pevensey Bay. He was elected to East Sussex County Council in May 2017. Since then he has done precisely zero for Pevensey and Pevensey Bay. He was last seen walking round Pevensey Bay in earnest in a high viz jacket with two staff from East Sussex County Council over a year ago acknowledging the need for a crossing in the Eastbourne Road.

Perhaps Councilor Tom Liddiard would actually like to do something for this community whilst he is office rather than just feathering his own career nest.

What he could do is to see that East Sussex County Council gets a crossing on the Eastbourne Road before someone is killed.

When Councilor Tim Liddiard gets a crossing on the Eastbourne Road we will give him the credit he will deserve.

No doubt he is a credible councillor, perhaps he would like to prove to the community that he serves that this is the case.

The subject is something that keeps coming up in letters to Bay Life. The letter below that we received last week from Tessa Purnell, is typical of the impassioned, and increasingly desperate plea that residents are continuing to make to us.

As Tessa, who lives on the Castle Drive side of the road says, “All we want to do …is… go for a walk…..Post letters….Catch a bus”.

Hi ….yet again ! ……..Now …..this has gone on LONG ENOUGH !
With SUV’s & cars……parked all along the road from the Bay…. to Castle Drive…..
& … up on the pavements to ! !( even on the Bus Stop at the top of Castle Drive ) !
As much as we are so lucky to live here……this road coming out of PEVENSEY BAY
Over the last 10 years……has become just ridiculous ! & SO DANGEROUS !
The traffic certainly does NOT adhere to the 30mph…..
P L E A S E ( I cannot be the only one who is just frustrated at NOTHING is
being done ! ! )
So …….can you PLEASE DO SOMETHING to help all …..who live in Castle Drive &
around……to help with “ANYTHING “…..that’s helps us ….to be able just to cross the
EASTBOURNE ROAD in safety! !
All we want to do …is… go for a walk…..Post letters….Catch a bus…just to go out to see the sea…..that’s what we moved here for !
It has become just a nightmare !!
ANYTHING….a small crossing…! We are NOT asking the impossible !
So ….can you inform …”ALL”…..THE POWERS THAT ARE CONCERNED
& GET THINGS MOVING ………A S A P
Kindest Regards
Tessa PURNELL
