Questions over the removal of trees at the Park Home Holiday site in Pevensey Bay have led to acknowledgement by the site that they were ‘in error’ with their tree cutting on 23 October.

The question of what was happening at the site were raised by the Timerberlaine Road residents association on 23 October.

An officer from the association phoned Wealden Council to explain that tree cutting was taking place.

The notes from the conversation explain, “I had phoned the enforcement team to inform them of the tree cutting”.

The phone call was followed by an email that said, “re: my phone call this morning to you regarding the cutting of trees on the Pevensey Bay Caravan park I have had visits from two of the other residents in the road asking me what the site is doing with the trees. I have the tree preservation order and attach it here for your information”.

The association note explained, “as the secretary of the Timberlaine Road and Environs Residents Association, the members look to me to keep them informed of any development or activity in the area which may affect them.

“We do not wish to see the removal of the trees on the Caravan site as they form a screen between the caravans and the properties in Timberlaine Road”.

Notes from the phone call from Wealden Council back to the association, offered to Bay Life yesterday evening (23 October) explain what happened following the visit.

PHONE CALL FROM WEALDEN PLANNING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER [NAME OF OFFICER] FOLLOWING MY CALL TO THE PLANNING ENFORCEMENT TEAM.
OFFICERS VISITED SITE DURING MORNING OF 23 RD OCTOBER AND STOPPED TREE CUTTING.
THE SITE MANAGER CLAIMED THAT THEY WERE ONLY REMOVING DANGEROUS BRANCHES AS SOME HAD FALLEN DURING HIGH WINDS.
THE PLANNING OFFICERS COULD FIND NO EVIDENCE OF THIS.
THE SITE ACKNOWLEDGED THEIR ERROR AND WILL BE CONSULTING WITH WEALDEN TREE SPECIALISTS REGARDING THE STATE OF THE TREES.
THESE TREES REQUIRE PLANNING PERMISSION TO BE TRIMMED OR LOPPED.
THE SITE HAD NOT APPLIED FOR PERMISSION.

Since their foundation in August 2018, the Timberlaine Road residents association has been fighting against what they describe as ‘the overdevelopment’ of the site by Park Holiday Homes.
