OUR STORY: Tired, emotional, and covered in dust, the Over The Moon Party Shop threw the doors open that Easter weekend, writes Paul Martin
Back in the dim distant past of December 2014, when Loom Bands were popular and One Direction still had 5 members, Daina Martin had a vision
It was time to leave her East Berkshire home and her beloved job in a friend’s party shop and strike out on her own.
With husband Paul in tow, they packed up their belongings, hitched up their caravan, and headed down to Pevensey Bay in sunny East Sussex.
After an exhaustive search of exactly one commercial premises (it was perfect!), the Over the Moon dream started to become reality…
By February they had taken possession; this was immediately followed by much coercion and pressganging of friends and relatives into two months of hard graft in preparation for opening.
Tired, emotional, and covered in dust, the happy entrepreneurs threw the doors open to the public for the first time that Easter weekend
And so the rollercoaster began.
Soon a steady flow of happy customers began to pass through the door, many giving glowing testimony to Daina’s kindness, efficiency, artistic talents, and general desire to ‘go the extra mile’ to make everyone’s party special.
It was these kind references that led, in December, to Over the Moon Party Shop being first nominated for and then winning the Sovereign FM Best New Business of 2015 award!
There was one small note of discord amongst all the happiness, though.. it turned out that Paul had no aptitude for balloon design and sculpture whatsoever; the phrase ‘all thumbs’ could have been invented for him.
However, he was exceptionally good at lifting heavy stuff around, getting items delivered to their destination quickly but safely, and smiling politely.
And so, in an effort to maximise these skills, the associate business of The Cow Jumped Over the Moon Events was born, offering a range of inflatable hire from the humble Bouncy Castle to the gargantuan inflatable Pirate Ship Obstacle Course, to really make your party go ‘boing!’.
