This year Wealden District Council has teamed up with local authorities across Sussex to launch a new county-wide tourism marketing campaign.
Aimed at encouraging Olympic and Paralympic visitors to Love Sussex, the focus will be on the wealth of attractions, activities and countryside available across the counties, so close to London.
Carrying the strapline, See, Do, Drink, Eat, Walk, Run, Bike, Visit, Stay… the campaign illustrates the wide range of leisure opportunities available throughout Sussex for visitors of all ages and tastes. It concentrates on four key themes; coast, countryside, culture and heritage, and uses examples in Wealden and other Sussex locations to drive a London-based campaign. The campaign is being rolled out before, during and after the 2012 Olympic Games.
Targeted at visitors to the Games and those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, the campaign uses press advertising and a poster and leaflet campaign in the area surrounding the Olympic Park. Posters are also being displayed across London and at major transport hubs including the London Underground. Visitors are being encouraged to click through to a new website www.lovesussex.com , and those on the go will be able to access a special mobile website.
“We are thrilled to be working with our partner authorities in this exciting campaign to promote Sussex where Wealden is a key destination in its own right,” said Councillor Roy Galley, Cabinet member with responsibility for tourism.
“We recognise the opportunity we have in 2012 to showcase Britain to a global audience. Located just an hour from London, Wealden is ideally positioned to welcome Olympic visitors and Londoners alike and has a huge range of attractions about which many are so far unaware.”
A Google translation bar on the website and mobile site, and a display of national flags will ensure that the campaign is positioned to engage with the visitors from around the world who will be coming to London. The site links back to www.enjoysussex.info , the tourism partnership that covers the Wealden, Lewes, Mid Sussex and Horsham districts. Visitors will be able to find more information about where to stay, what to see and do, and further inspiration for visiting the area. Visitors to Love Sussex are already being invited to interact with blog site Love Sussex Too, becoming a fan on Facebook www.facebook.com/lovesussextoo and following Love Sussex Too on Twitter www.twitter.com/lovesussextoo.
