Wealden District Council has launched a new website, Healthy Wealden, to encourage residents to stay active and healthy.
The Healthy Wealden website, www.healthywealden.co.uk, is an online pick-me-up for a cold January, providing all the information you need to keep you healthy, not just now but through-out the year.
“Good health is important to everyone, and the new Healthy Wealden website is full of ideas and activities currently taking place that can help keep you healthy and happy,” said Councillor Claire Dowling, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Community Safety at Wealden District Council. “Whether you are young or old, an active lifestyle and eating the right food can make a real difference.
“Social activity also plays an important part in today’s blueprint for health, particularly as we get older. This is particularly relevant in rural areas where loneliness and isolation can have a negative effect on people’s health. The new Healthy Wealden website includes lists of local community groups as well as information about grants and organisations like Club Matters which can help people looking to start up or maintain a club or society.
“We have a number of exciting initiatives which we will be launching through the Healthy Wealden website during the coming year,” added Councillor Dowling.
“It’s great to see Wealden Council, in partnership with East Sussex County Council, helping people to make healthy choices about their lifestyle, diet and exercise,” said Angela Baker, deputy director for Health & Wellbeing at Public Health England, South East. “Improving health not only makes you feel better and helps you to live longer, it also means that you can contribute more to your community by getting out and meeting with people and feeling a part of something.
“This site gives people a great place to start with information and ideas on how to get fitter and healthier – something which is on the minds of many of us at the start of a New Year.”
Links from the Healthy Wealden website take you to the daily activities at Wealden’s four Freedom Leisure centres in Crowborough, Hailsham, Heathfield and Uckfield. There is also information about targeted health and fitness programmes for Weight Management, Pre-and Post-Natal exercises, Chronic Lower Back Pain, Cardiac Rehabilitation schemes and GP Referral schemes. There are also more general exercise programmes, Water Therapy, Buggy Power Fitness classes for mothers and babies, Back to Netball and Walking Football.
Other sections on the Healthy Wealden website deal with eating and diet and include information about local markets and healthy cooking on a budget.
The knock-on effects to health from financial worries are tackled in the sections on Health & Wealth. The Health in Mind section provides information on Counselling Services, Family Life & Relationship Problems, Dementia Support and Loss & Bereavement.
