Wealden Dementia Action Alliance is working with Hailsham Pavilion Theatre to run monthly Dementia Friendly film screenings of classic musicals from the 1930s to present day.—East Sussex County Council, 12 July 2016

“This is a wonderful initiative from the Wealden Dementia Action Alliance to support and improve the quality of life for those affected by dementia,” said Councillor Claire Dowling, Portfolio Holder for Public Health and Community Safety.

“I would advise everyone to tell anyone they know who would benefit from this project, but with over 80 people attending the launch screening they might want to book up early. Our thanks to the South East Films Hub and the British Film Institute Film Audience Network for providing the funding for this fantastic initiative and to Hailsham Pavilion for hosting.”

The screenings will run once a month for a year. Films confirmed so far are:

• Mamma Mia – Friday 22 July, 2pm
• Summer Holiday – Friday 19 August, 2pm
• Meet me in St Louis – Friday 23 September, 2pm
• 42nd Street – Friday 21 October, 2pm
• Gentlemen Prefer Blondes – Friday 18 November, 2pm
• White Christmas – Friday 16 December, 2pm

The screenings will start at 2pm, with doors open at 1:30pm. Tickets cost £3 and carers can enter free of charge. The Hailsham Pavilion Theatre is on George Street, BN27 1AE.

As a special bonus, some screenings will also feature Suzy Harvey bringing the screen to life with audience participation. Suzy is a professional actor, with many years’ experience of working with people living with dementia and care providers. The first film to have this additional content will be Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in November.
