Letters-to-the-Editor

Dear Sir

With regard to the county council’s statement about a survey of works needed in Pevensey Bay Library being undertaken in the next few weeks, this is really good news – as long as it happens!

Twelve months in discussion with the freeholder to get this first small step in place is however rather disturbing. We know the county council provides great library services and we are appreciative of the small book exchange being provided in St Wilfrid’s hallway, but the lack of progress on re-opening the library really does throw up questions about how effective the county council’s support services are. What kind of timetable are they working to? Do they actually have one?

Tomorrow a small friendly demonstration will be held outside Pevensey Bay Library at 10:30, to keep the issue alive. Throughout the country 549 libraries have closed since 2010, and many more closures are in the pipeline – let’s hope that Pevensey Bay Library doesn’t join them.

In a year the library could expect over 15,000 visits – perhaps the best measure of the inconvenience caused to taxpayers by this ineffectiveness.

We hope your readers will come for half an hour and show support for getting the library back at 10:30am on Sat morning at our small friendly demonstration to help publicise the plight of the library. We have a free to enter quiz and the first three answers out of the box will get a chance to win a book by local authors – Helen Dennis, Martin Link, and Mandy Cracknell.

Hope to see you there

Kind regards

Margaret Martin
