appeal to people NOT to feed the seagulls

I hope you won’t mind me using this space to appeal to people NOT to feed the seagulls on the beach.

Human food and particularly bread and chips are not their natural diet and are bad for them. They cannot differentiate between bread freely given by those who think it’s a good way to use up their stale bread each day and someone eating a sandwich for lunch and so boldly steal from unsuspecting picnickers.

The nuisance that results from them knocking on beach front patio doors and windows and even wandering in if the door is open is extremely annoying. It is infuriating when they spit on newly cleaned windows or a freshly hung load of washing is liberally decorated with seagull excrement – they would not come so close if they weren’t encouraged by people feeding them.

Please don’t feed the seagulls, it’s not only a rule, but a law in many places.
