To the Editor
I run Smart Mutts Dog Training, I use the Ethel Wood hall for 7 hours a week, plus I run 4 agility classes, which are outside in Hailsham.
I’ve emailed SGN regarding my business, I’ve had no reply other than the standard “we’ve got your email” reply. I came to the meeting last night, I left before all the fun started, the person I spoke to said someone would call me, he had seen my email. I’ve heard nothing from them!
I really need to know what I’m doing! My clients want to know what to expect! I also have questions I need to ask SGN.
Like, will they reimburse lost earnings? And when? Will they pay the hire difference on another hall for the duration of the works? I don’t know who to turn to. This could finish my business if I’m not careful.
SGN are NOT being very helpful! How are the other affected businesses coping? Have they received any advice?

EDITOR NOTE: Amongst the many questions that people from Pevensey Bay have asked is why someone representing the compensation scheme that SGN says has been established with regard to the gas network upgrade work, was not made available to answer questions at the drop in session held at the Ethel Wood Centre on October 19. It would appear in this case that the request for information about the compensation scheme is not receiving a response.
We would suggest that you record the fact that you have had to date no response from SGN. The SGN Compensation of Small Business Team is available to assist a business through the procedure or to answer any queries that may arise and can be contacted at St Lawrence House, Station Approach, Horley, Surrey RH6 9HJ, or through email to
