An interesting launch coming up this week, the launch of the monthly quiz night at the Priory Court Hotel, In Pevensey

Set in such a historic setting, looking out on the 2,000 years of history that is Pevensey Castle, there is sure to be rich pickings when it comes to some local questions about the area.

Talking about the new venture, quizmaster Robert Slater, told Bay Life, (19 July), “we need as many teams as possible – it’s going to go to charity. Booking is preferred as limited to about 60 people”.

Priory Court Hotel comments, “Monthly Charity Quiz Night starts on Wednesday 27th July, support your local community & come to our new monthly quiz night.

“All proceeds go a different local charity each month nominated by YOU!

“The quiz starts at 7.30pm so please make sure you arrive early as space is limited, CALL 01323 763150
& BOOK YOUR QUIZ TABLE TODAY

“The first beneficiary is the St. Nicholas Church Restoration Fund”.

Could be an interesting night all round, perfect setting for a new regular venture of this description and looks likely to gain a following quickly.

Your starter for ten: So what is the family name of the children in the C.S. Lewis Narnia Chronicles, starting with the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe? You will not find it in book 1, but buried deep in book 2, Prince Caspian, the name is revealed to be Pevensie, (the High Norman spelling of the village). Quite possibly the naming by C.S Lewis was a dig at Kipling (they hated each other). In Puck of Pook’s Hill by Kipling, The Eastern Gate at Pevensey Castle that you see out of the window of Priory Court becomes ‘the gateway to the mythical Albion’.

Given the choice of the name Pevensie for the family in the Narnia Chronicles, is it not a little interesting that the children enter a mythical kingdom through the back of a wardrobe? Was C.S. Lewis again having a little dig at Kipling by utiliisng an opening to a mythical kingdom?

This bit gets a bit scary. What is the first thing that Lucy sees when she enters Narnia? The answer is a London Lamp post. Now look next to the Eastern Gate as you are settling in to what could be a fabulous new monthly quiz night.

Answers not needed on a postcard, answer is a London lamp post. Would not be the first time that an author has had a big hidden joke at the expense of another author

Coincidence or is it? No references to any of these choices amongst C.S. Lewis scholars, so we are left to wonder, which is maybe how it was meant to be.
