about the Smuggler’s Inn, Pevensey
The Smugglers provides a warm and friendly atmosphere in its oak beamed bar and restaurant with open fires in both, essential when there’s a nautical nip in the air. The restaurant is available for private hire, for all occasions and we do also welcome coach parties with advance notice. For the warmer days we have a large garden area with children’s play area where they can pretend they are smugglers, or at least wear themselves out for you. We have a large car park and are conveniently placed for the local campsites and holiday parks.

history
The Smugglers dates back to 1527 and is located in the Cinque Port of Pevensey. We share our space with some interesting characters from the past, including a resident ghost; a young lady who only favours one end of the pub! Pevensey is steeped in history, being the landing place of William the Conqueror in 1066 and home to to Pevensey Castle – originally one of the last and strongest of the Roman ‘Saxon Shore’ forts – as well as other great historical buildings such as Pevensey Court House & Gaol and St Nicolas’ Church.
