Sorry for the long delay in posting but I have been on what I hope was seen as a well deserved 3 weeks break in Australia and Hong Kong celebrating a fairly ginormous birthday!—Malcolm Lawson, Clerk to Council, 9 May 2017
News from Pevensey Coastal Defence is that we will be seeing the Dredger Sospan Dau in the Bay shortly.
Rather than being dumped at sea, sand dredged from Soveriegn Harbour’s approach is being re-used on the nearshore seabed in Pevensey Bay. Last year it was placed near Pevensey Bay Sailing Club where it created some problems for dinghies at some states of the tide. To prevent a recurrence of this problem a new location has been agreed with the Marine Management Organisation, who license this activity.
For 2017 the sand placement site has been moved 500m east to an area of “The Sandcastle”
Work is due to start on or around Friday 12th May and will be carried out for three hours either side of high water day and night. It is expected to last about a week. All sand will bottom dumped by the dredger well below low water.
