St. Nicolas church Pevensey hosts musicians from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, currently engaged at Glyndebourne
The 25th July will see a fund raising concert for the parish church, beginning at 7:00 PM. All the musicians play on both period and modern instruments.
The programme of ‘Solo Baroque Masterpieces’, to be played on original instruments, includes compositions by Telemann, JS Bach and his most gifted son CPE Bach, whose 300th anniversary is this year.
‘I really enjoy playing at St. Nicolas,’ says Neil, ‘the church acoustics are a musician’s dream and that’s why I like to come and play music here, with fellow professional musicians’.
The three composers whose works being performed are recognised as the three greatest of the Baroque period. They are substantial works in which harmony was exploited in ways not previously believed possible.
“Neil, with fellow professional musicians, has played at St. Nicolas every year for the past six years. This year we are really thrilled to have Neil Mclaren and fellow Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment musicians visit us. St. Nicolas church, Pevensey is approaching 800 years of age in 2016, and Neil’s concerts are always well received,’ says George Stephens, deputy church warden.
There will be an interval with refreshments available. Tickets, at £10 each for what is expected to be a sell-out event can be obtained in advance, or on the door.
