In a media release to Bay Life this afternoon (Thursday 24 November), a spokesperson for the Gas distribution company SGN confirmed that Coast Road is now fully reopen. Message began, Good news from SGN… we’ve finished our project in Coast Road today more than two weeks ahead of schedule. We’ve fully reopened the road today and East Sussex Highways will now carry out its resurfacing work in the new year. Thank you again for all your support during this project. It’s very much appreciated.—Bay Life, 23 November 2016

Gas distribution company SGN has finished work to upgrade the gas network in Pevensey Bay more than two weeks ahead of schedule, fully reopening Coast Road today (24 November).

The £624,000 project saw Coast Road closed to through traffic for three weeks, while engineers replaced the existing metal gas mains and services with new plastic pipe.

SGN Engineering Manager Steve Colvin said: “We’re acutely aware that Coast Road is a key route through the village and we were committed to closing the road for as little time as possible.

“Our engineers made tremendous progress and I’m extremely pleased to confirm we’ve been finished our work in Coast Road today, more than two weeks ahead of schedule, and we have fully reopened the road this morning.

“We’ll be carrying out some mains connections over the coming days, but this won’t impact on Coast Road motorists. East Sussex Highways has postponed its resurfacing work in Coast Road until the new year and will be issuing further information on its own road closure shortly.

“We appreciate that roadworks can be frustrating and we thank Pevensey Bay residents and motorists for their patience during our essential work to upgrade our gas network. Now our project is finished, we’ve ensured a continued safe and reliable gas supply to local homes and businesses for many years to come.”
